about Camp Wandawega

There were a lot of options for our wedding venue, all across the globe. at the end of the day, after visiting camp wandawega, it was a no-brainer that we would have our wedding weekend here.

Camp wandawega has lived a lot of lives for the past 100 years. it first opened in the era of prohibition was frequented by a cast of characters, including the chicago mafia, who were looking for a bit of debauchery either in the speakeasy (which still exists) or with a lady of the night in the brothel (which is now the bunk house).

after becoming a proper lake resort in the 50's under new owners, it became a beautiful getaway for chicagoans and wisconsinites alike.

in the 1960's it was purchased by the catholic church and handed over to the Latvian Marian Fathers, which were catholic priests who fled the war-torn u.s.s.r.. at camp wandawega, they were able to enjoy some respite and sense of community.

in 2003, the current owners, david and theresa, purchased it from the church. david grew up going to the latvian camp with his family, and knew whenever the church was ready to sell it, he would buy it.

for the past 20+ years, david and theresa have been lovingly restoring the property. as designers and preservationists, they have put so much love and attention to making the property the beautiful (albeit appropriately rustic!) place it is today.
